1. San Antonio restaurant advances to final in national chicken sandwich contest. A San Antonio restaurant entered the big leagues — that is, it advanced to the final round in an eight-city matchup for the best chicken sandwich. Since this competition was fan-voted, San Antonians had a chance to sway the end result until September 27. The winner will be announced November 9.

2. The 14 saddest San Antonio restaurant and bar closures of summer 2024. Summer is traditionally a slow time for San Antonio restaurants and bars, but this season has been brutal. The list of this summer's dearly departed is by no means comprehensive, but it does establish a trend.

3. Texas-themed eatery ropes San Antonio for latest location. One thing about Texas hospitality group FB Society: It knows how to create a vibe. Having previously brought a neighborhood tavern feel with Whiskey Cake and Southern hospitality with Ida Claire, the Dallas-based group is now headed to the ranch with its latest local project, Haywire, opening this fall at 15900 La Cantera Pkwy.

4. Say prost to these 9 San Antonio Oktoberfests. Not to throw a wet blanket on Maria von Trapp's favorite things, but we don't break out the lederhosen for bright copper kettles. We save that level of excitement for Oktoberfest. Thanks to Antonio's rich German heritage, the fall will be filled with family friendly celebrations and raucous bar crawls. Sausage and steins and fresh-fried schnitzel. Now we're talking.

5. UTSA sees huge jump in U.S. News' university rankings for 2025. The University of Texas at San Antonio has landed among the top 15 best universities in the state for 2025, according to U.S. News and World Report's just-released list of the Best Colleges for 2025.

The home of the Roadrunners claimed No. 15 in Texas, and had a massive 49-place leap from the previous year into No. 231 nationally for 2025.
