3 San Antonio treasures score huge USA Today honors
Ask any national tastemaker, and they would surely agree San Antonio is so hot right now. Yes, the blistering temps are making short shorts de rigueur. But also, the entire media ecosystem is currently enchanted by Alamo City's many charms.
The latest recognition comes from the 2023 USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. Each year, the publication's travel experts nominate 20 businesses in dozens of categories ranging from frequent flyer programs to resorts. On July 14, the program released the results of several categories, and all three San Antonio prospects made the final list.
Pearl cleaned up with two wins. Coming in at No. 5, Pearl Farmers Market was voted one of the nation's premier farmers markets. The weekend tradition was lauded for its unique two-day format focusing on area ranchers and farmers on Saturdays and local artisans on Sundays.
Not to be outdone, the Bottling Department rounded off the best food hall list at No. 10. Readers were smitten by the ever-changing assortment of international concepts — including newcomers like Henbit and Howdy Child.
Elsewhere, downtown's Market Square got a boost as the No. 9 public market in the nation. The writeup praised the variety of Mexican and Southwestern goods and the abundance of local specialty foods, singling out the yoyo de fresa as the square's must-eat treat.
Locals who didn't get a chance to weigh in on the most recent round still have the chance to show some hometown pride. San Antonio favorites are currently battling it out in several categories. Fans can vote once a day for local businesses like La Cantera Resort and Spa (vying for best family resort glory) and Taco Cabana (competing against Whataburger for the best regional fast food title).
