San Antonio Airport breaks new record for busiest month in July
It's been a very busy summer for the San Antonio International Airport: SAT set a new monthly record in July for its highest passenger traffic all year, beating the previous record set in July 2023.
According to a press release, 1,032,610 passengers flew in and out of the airport in July, which is the second time SAT has surpassed one million travelers in a month. The new record is a three percent increase in traffic volume, amounting to 32,438 more passengers than the July 2023 record.
Furthermore, this latest record continues a back-to-back record-breaking streak at SAT that began in May 2023.
"We’re continuing to see record-breaking passenger levels at SAT," said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, City of San Antonio Aviation Department. "We are growing every day with new destinations and flights being added yearly. The more you continue to choose to fly from SAT, the more airlines respond to that demand and add more service."
The entirety of 2023 was the busiest year on record for SAT, with nearly 10.7 million passengers traveling in and out of San Antonio. On July 31 alone, SAT broke its then-record for the busiest day ever recorded, with the Transport Safety Administration (TSA) reporting 41,560 travelers flying in and out of the airport. It then broke the single-day record again on March 8, during Spring Break, with 41,632 passengers.
Spirit Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Aeromexico, Frontier Airlines, Volaris, Sun Country, Viva Aerobus, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines all flew more seats to San Antonio across July 2024 compared to July 2023, the release said.
It seems like that will keep escalating, since Spirit Airlines recently added a twice-daily nonstop route to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
Flight services that will be added or resumed through the rest of 2024 include:
- September 26 – United Airlines will add a second daily flight to San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
- November 3 – Volaris will launch daily, nonstop service to Monterrey International Airport (MTY) in Mexico.
- November 11 – Delta Air Lines will launch daily, nonstop service to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).
- November 28 – Southwest Airlines will resume its holiday-seasonal nonstop service to Colorado Springs Airport (COS). This service is offered on Saturdays through January 5 and nearly daily during the week of Christmas and New Year’s.
- December 2 – Viva Aerobus will start new, nonstop service to Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) in Mexico. The service will operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
