San Antonio pup fetches title of wackiest dog name in the U.S.
A San Antonio Plott Hound is in the national spotlight for having the wackiest dog name in the U.S. Insurance company Nationwide named Internet Browser the winner of its 2026 contest, taking the lion’s share of over 200,000 votes.
“She has distinct eyebrows,” explains owner Shannon of the curious name. “Her nickname is ‘I-browse’ — pronounced ‘eyebrows’ — which is short for Internet Browser. When she’s confused, we say she’s still buffering.”
Internet Browser fetched the trophy after beating 9 finalists with similarly oddball names. Aries Amethyst World Eater was named after her zodiac sign and not her tendency for Thanos-like destruction. Marshmallow Panda is appropriately cuddly.
Nationwide also crowned a winner in two other categories: cats and exotic pets. The voluptuous Cheddar Big Booty Cheeseburger from Benton, Arkansas, handily nabbed the feline crown. North Carolina bearded dragon Space beat an assortment of parrots, ferrets, bunnies, and one hedgehog named Quillie Nelson.
Nationwide holds the national contest each year as a way to hawk its pet insurance policies, but sometimes commerce and fun can collide. According to a release, the winner’s owners get a professional photo shoot with their pet and a gift card to create a custom pet portrait. But we think Internet Browser deserves at least a couple of extra Milk-Bones.
That’s especially true of a pup trying to navigate San Antonio’s damp Fiesta weather. Shannon says Internet Browser isn’t a fan of seasonal downpours.
“She…refuses to go outside after it’s rained,” says the lucky owner via a release. “She’ll just stand there and look at us like we just asked her to do calculus equations until we go back inside.”
