LET FREEDOM RING
10 Juneteenth celebrations in San Antonio, from parades to live music

The Legends perform at a San Antonio Juneteenth celebration.
Five years after Juneteenth gained overdue recognition as a national holiday, San Antonio is celebrating the cherished day bigger than ever. 2025's celebrations are packed with community gatherings, film screenings, and concerts lauding the cultural contributions of Black Americans.
The holiday marks the formal end of chattel slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston with news that freed enslaved people, two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Since then, Juneteenth has been a chance to honor history and reflect on the still-ongoing fight for civil rights.
Although Alamo City locals have celebrated the holiday for more than 150 years, the San Antonio Juneteenth Commission wasn't created until 1996. The observance now spans more than a week, offering activities for the entire community. From a historical tour to wellness sessions, here are some of the highlights of San Antonio's Juneteenth observance.
