COMING ATTRACTIONS
Wellness-focused juice chain opening first San Antonio shop near UTSA
Pure Green takes a more health-focused approach than chains like Jamba Juice.
The Northwest Side is getting a new main squeeze. Juice bar Pure Green will make its San Antonio debut at the buzzy Merc development at 5734 UTSA Blvd.
The Merc had previously teased Pure Green as part of its latest tenant announcement, but a new state filing gives more information about when San Antonians can first try the brand. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) timeline, construction will wrap up in November, so it could arrive sooner than the development’s 2027 estimation.
Although Pure Green doesn’t yet have any Alamo City storefronts, the logo might be familiar to locals. Its cold-pressed juices are sold at Target, Walmart, and other national retailers. The physical locations expand the offerings to superfood smoothies, açai and pitaya bowls, and toasts.
It’s not yet clear, however, if the latter will be on the San Antonio menu. The filing states that no cooking will be done onsite. Whether toasting a few bread slices is considered “cooking” is murky, but toppings like smashed avocados, banana slices, and nut butters are all raw.
While the menu might be fairly conventional, it differentiates itself from the marketplace by putting its wellness focus front and center. The website has a section extolling the virtues of its various ingredients and states that its approach is “science-backed.” It particularly emphasizes sports performance — and its partnerships with leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB.
Once open, Pure Green will join a growing list of other food and beverage tenants in the near-UTSA mixed-use center. As CultureMap previously reported, Canadian brunch café Pür & Simple, fast-casual plate lunch purveyors Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, and Sora Sushi — a new concept from the owners of Wild Goji — will also land at The Merc.
