Work It Out
Free San Antonio fitness event promotes cycling and serious sweating
When it comes to staying fit, sometimes you need the motivation of other enthusiastic workout junkies. Thanks to the Tobin Center's efforts to whip San Antonio into shape with Fitness on the Plaza, you can join other fitness fanatics on November 14 for a free cycling event.
Rock 'n' Ride is a philanthropic collaboration with JoyRide Cycling Studio to raise money for the Tobin Center's free fitness program at the River Walk Plaza. JoyRide is supplying 68 top-of-the-line Schwinn A.C. Performance Plus bikes for the event. As Kelly Middleton (former competitive soccer player) and master instructor Leah Lindsay lead two 40-minute sweat-inducing classes, DJ Chacho will mix energetic beats. You don't have to be an avid cyclist, just be ready to work your muscles and break a sweat.
Though the class is free, the Tobin Center requests a donation to help support its fitness program. Anyone who donates will be entered into a contest to win the JoyRide fitness staycation prize — a one-night stay at a local hotel, a private class for 35 friends at JoyRide, and a gift card to Lululemon.
“This will truly be a JoyRide party on the plaza, and the hottest free ticket in San Antonio,” said JoyRide owner Becky Cerroni in a statement. “It will be such a thrill to bring our popular indoor cycling workout outdoors and to spread the joy to more people in San Antonio. This is a can’t-miss party on a bike!”
The first class begins at 4:20 pm and the second class begins at 5:20 pm, with a short capoeira (Brazilian martial arts) demonstration in between. A less-sweaty party will continue after the workout at Ocho at Hotel Havana from 7 to 11 pm.
