San Antonio adds 2 drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites in underserved locations
The City of San Antonio has deployed two new drive-thru testing sites as the fight continues against COVID-19. The new sites, located on the city's south and west sides, are strategically positioned to help break access barriers to testing for San Antonio's underserved and minority communities. The tests are free and intended for uninsured or under insured residents.
Texas MedClinic drive-thru COVID-19 testing location is now open at 2530 SW Military. (Note, this is the only Texas MedClinic currently offering drive-thru testing.) It is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.
To schedule an appointment, call 210-233-5970 between the hours of 8 am-5 pm to be screened. From there, the patient will be told to either go Texas MedClinic or Freeman Coliseum, which has been open for testing since mid-March.
The second drive-thru will open on Saturday, April 25, at the Walmart on 8923 W. Military Dr. Note that this location is reserved for those exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and all healthcare providers and first responders, regardless of whether or not they are exhibiting symptoms.
This site is also open seven days a week, from 9 am-4 pm, and patients can schedule an appointment via eTrueNorth at www.DoINeedaCOVID19test.com.
“These new COVID-19 test sites will provide accessible testing at no charge to areas of our community that have experienced historic access to care barriers and provider-deserts,” said Metro Health director Dawn Emerickm in a release “If you are experiencing symptoms, please schedule a test."
These sites join the following currently open COVID-19 testing facilities: Freeman Coliseum, Texas MedClinic (in-office visit), and Alamo City Urgent Care. To schedule a test, patients should call the testing site directly or use the website portal.
