Ron Bechtol
Ron Bechtol has been writing about food, wine, and spirits in San Antonio since 1979 when he almost accidentally became the restaurant critic of a new city magazine. Writing in publications such as The San Antonio Light, San Antonio Express News, and San Antonio Current followed. Magazine credits include Martha Stewart Living, Texas Highways, and San Antonio Woman. He is the editor and principal critic of The Fearless Critic Restaurant Guide to San Antonio and is also a past co-chair and founder of the New World Wine & Food Festival, now known as Culinaria. In his other life as an architect, he has reinforced his interest in the bar and restaurant world with projects for Boudro’s on the Riverwalk, Zinc Champagne and Wine Bar, The Brooklynite, Blue Box at the Pearl, and The Last Word. Architecture has also helped justify frequent travels to the colonial Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende where he has done several residences and usually holes up cooking with friends.
