Low-cost airline adds 2 nonstop routes from San Antonio to Central Mexico

Volaris is connecting Morelia and San Luis Potosi with San Antonio.
The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is on a roll adding flights to Mexico. Two more by low-cost carrier Volaris further expand nonstop offerings to large cities that are a bit off the beaten path for tourists: Morelia (MLM) and San Luis Potosi (SLP). These flights will start operating July 5.
Both flights begin operation on the same day and continue three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The schedule for each is as follows:
Morelia (MLM):
- Departs SAT at 6:49 pm; arrives at 7:39 pm
- Departs MLM at 9 am; arrives at 11:52 am
San Luis Potosi (SLP):
- Departs SAT at 1:14 pm; arrives at 1:43 pm
- Departs SLP at 2:48 pm; arrives at 5:16 pm
“Expansion throughout Mexico continues to be a priority for us at SAT,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airport, City of San Antonio Aviation Department, in a press release. “We appreciate our partners at Volaris for continuing to invest in San Antonio, these new flights will not only make it easier to visit family and friends but also to grow business ties and continue to bring tourists to our beautiful region.”
Morelia and San Luis Potosi are both in Central Mexico and both known for their dramatic colonial architecture. People visiting Morelia tend to plan around the city center, while those visiting San Luis Potosi often branch out to enjoy nature, including some impressive waterfalls.
“Pre-pandemic, SAT offered nonstop service to just four destinations in Mexico,” said Jacob Tyler, Air Service Administrator, City of San Antonio Aviation Department. “With today’s announcement, the airport now offers service to nine cities across five airline partners.”
That include Volaris' nonstop service from SAT to Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey.
In August 2024, another low-cost carrier called Viva Aerobus announced a new direct route to Guadalajara — one of the most exciting recent additions. SAT also broke records last year, including its busiest-ever month with more than one million passengers flying in or out in July.
