Spring Break
2 new Spirit Airlines routes officially take off from San Antonio airport
After an initial announcement in its San Antonio debut last fall, Spirit Airlines celebrates the official launch of its two latest destinations this week.
Just in time for spring break, the two new routes from San Antonio International Airport (SAT) are both east coast destinations. As of March 8, the ultra-low-cost-airline now offers nonstop flights to Baltimore/Washington, D.C., (BWI) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
Adding to the Las Vegas (LAS) and Orlando (MCO) services launched in November, the two new routes mark four total Spirit routes from SAT and the second Florida stop.
An official ceremony to launch the two new destinations took place on Wednesday, March 8. Attendees included Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports for the San Antonio Airport System, and Barry Payne, Southeast Regional Director of Airport Services for Spirit Airlines.
The celebratory event included a ribbon cutting, beach-themed decorations, cake cutting, and more festivities.
The airline will add a fifth SAT nonstop route to Los Angeles (LAX) beginning on May 5.
