Darling Hill Country winery debuts chic modern farmhouse refresh
One of the Hill Country’s most well-known wineries has completed a snazzy refresh in time for the bustling summer season. Kuhlman Estate, located on Wine Road 290 between Fredericksburg and Johnson City, has revamped its tasting room and a members-only patio with a striking modern farmhouse aesthetic.
A release says the tasting room was enhanced to provide panoramic views of the vineyard and estate, but there is plenty of drama inside the four walls. Ashy wood tones surround a central bar lit by contemporary lighting, while a pottery-filled shelf softens the otherwise stark design.
The tasting room is open to all visitors, but oenophiles will have to join the Heath Family Brands Club to enjoy the patio. As with the dining room, the winery took a minimalist approach, outfitting the space with cantilevered wicker chairs, a sculptural fountain, and a roughly hewn fire pit. The restrained approach lets the surrounding Autumn Blaze maples and roses do all the talking.
Kuhlman made a few practical improvements as part of the project. The winery built a new marquee entryway, widened the driveway, and expanded the parking area, while making sure the Hill Country views remained intact.
“Kuhlman Estate is a place that beckons guests to slow down and stay a while,” said Brian Heath, CEO and owner of Heath Family Brands, via a release. “With these renovations, we’ve created even more inviting spaces to enjoy great wine, good company, and the natural beauty of the Hill Country.”
An expansion of the estate’s K Bistro is still to come in September. The final phase of the winery’s renovation will allow for more efficiency and new menu items, while keeping the serene farmhouse vibe. Like the patio, it will require a membership, which also provides guest access to private areas at Grape Creek Vineyards, Invention Vineyards, and Heath Sparkling Wines.
