San Antonio's Hotel Emma snags prestigious global Food & Wine award

San Antonio's Hotel Emma is again in the national spotlight, this time as the sole Texas hotel to nab one of Food & Wine magazine's prestigious annual Global Tastemaker Awards. The swanky Pearl property was named the No. 10 best United States hotel for food and drink.
The global rankings of culinary travel, now in their third year, are tallied from a poll of 400 international chefs, travel experts, food and travel writers, and wine pros. An internal advisory board then ranked the top nominees in each category.
Food & Wine praised the ambiance at the former brewhouse, calling it "romantic and dramatic." But it saved most of its gushing for the trip of in-house dining options, recommending the quail at Supper, South Texas-style dishes at Larder, and the signature Three Emmas cocktail at Sternewirth.
Despite its love for San Antonio's lodging, the city was spurned when the magazine named the top 10 best food and drink cities in America. Two other culinary powerhouses in Texas, however, made the cut.
Austin (No. 4) was lauded for its variety, ranging from barbecue to fine dining institutions. Food & Wine shouted out to some of its previous winners of Restaurant of the Year and Best New Chef, lauding "unfussy counter service spot" Birdie's and Nixta Taquería's Edgar Rico and Suerte's Fermín Núñez.
Houston (No. 9) was hailed for its "vibrant and diverse food scene." The editors recommended the crawfish at Crawfish & Noodles, handmade corn tortillas and heritage corn tepache at Tatemó, and brisket at Truth BBQ.
Although San Antonio did not receive any other noms, Texas was well represented throughout the categories. The rest of the 2025 winners include:
- Houston, No. 8 - Top 10 US Cities for Pastry
- Austin Bergstrom International Airport, No. 5 - Top 10 US Airports for Food and Drink
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, No. 6 - Top 10 US Airports for Food and Drink
- Midnight Cowboy in Austin, No. 6 - 10 Top Bars in the US
