San Antonio International Airport lands new nonstop flights to Phoenix

Frontier Airlines is adding a new nonstop to Phoenix.
In October, the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) will offer zippier flights to the desert. On July 22, ultra-low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines announced it is adding a nonstop route from Alamo City to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), whisking locals away from a hot place to some place even hotter.
The new nonstop flights will run on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays starting October 10. Frontier already services SAT with four nonstop routes servicing some of the nation’s most popular tourist destinations, including Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, and Orlando.
“Earlier this summer, we celebrated Frontier’s resumption of nonstop service to Atlanta, and we’re thrilled to see the growth continue,” Jesus Saenz, City of San Antonio Aviation Department Director of Airports, said in a press release. “We continue to work tirelessly on expanding nonstop service from SAT, which includes new routes, new airlines, and new options on existing routes.”
Although San Antonio passenger numbers fell 2.4 percent in the first half of 2025, the airport continues to focus on seeking more convenient flight options ahead of its $2.5 billion third terminal expansion. In February, Volaris added nonstops to two unexpected Mexico destinations: San Luis Potosi and Morelia.
The airport is also hard at work making its hospitality offerings reflect the city’s dynamic restaurant scene. 2M Smokehouse, Bakery Lorraine, Southerleigh, Freight Fried Chicken, and Pharm Table are among the kiosks slated to debut in the upcoming months.
Like many airports around the country, much of SAT’s growth is being fueled by ultra-low-cost carriers (ULCCs), airlines with significantly reduced base fares that charge extra for seat selection and baggage. ULCCs now hold double-digit market share for domestic flights, according to industry news site AirportIR.
“SAT has seen significant ULCC growth in recent years,” said Air Service Administrator Jacob Tyler in a statement. “This has increased competition resulting in cheaper fares and more options not only for San Antonians but for residents throughout Central and South Texas.”
