It feels as though the world is finally paying attention to what we already knew to be true — San Antonio is the bee's knees. The Alamo City is again in the spotlight, this time as part of Travel + Leisure’s coveted World’s Best Awards.
In fact, San Antonio is tops for two separate categories in the travel magazine’s 21st annual awards. Voted on by T+L readers, the awards reveal top travel destinations and companies in the U.S. and around the world, ranging in categories from best cities and islands to best cruise lines, airlines, hotels, and more.
San Antonio takes home the No. 12 spot on the list of best U.S. cities. T+L readers rated San Antonio on its sights, food, friendliness, shopping, and value. No doubt our hospitality, cultural offerings, Tex-Mex and barbecue, and bustling nightlife helped anchor us within the top 15. The only other Texas city on the list is Austin, at No. 9.
Another favorite of T+L readers, Mokara Hotel & Spa places at No. 14 among the nation's best city hotels. Like the other hotels on the list, Mokara gives guests an authentic introduction to the city, immersing travelers in the San Antonio experience. Mokara received high ranking for its rooms, facilities, downtown location, service, food and drink, and overall value.
Other Lone Star winners include an airline, two airports, and a spa. T+L readers ranked Dallas-based Southwest Airlines the No. 5 best domestic airline. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport ranks No. 4 on T+L’s best domestic airports list, and Dallas Love Field lands at No. 5. And finally, Lake Austin Spa Resort ranks No. 8 for best destination spa in the U.S.
