San Antonio sizzles among the top 10 summer travel destinations for 2022
It's safe to say San Antonians are used to sharing the city with tourists. And, like it or not, the trend will continue, as San Antonio has secured the No. 10 spot on a new list of 2022’s Best Summer Travel Destinations.
The report is from personal finance site WalletHub, which ranked U.S. metros based on travel costs and hassles, local costs, attractions, weather, activities, and safety.
The Alamo City ranks best in local costs — No. 6 in the U.S. — which is good news for locals planning a staycation. The ranking factors in cost of living, average gas prices, lowest nightly rate for a three-star hotel room, and the average price of a two-person meal.
San Antonio takes the No. 20 spot for attractions, which WalletHub ranked based on the number and diversity of attractions in town. The city's worst ranking is for safety, where it sits right in the middle at No. 50.
One other Texas city makes the top 10: Austin, at No. 4, providing a nearby escape for San Antonians in need of their own summer getaway. It comes in behind three long-standing travel destinations: Orlando, Florida; Washington, D.C.; and Tampa, Florida.
Elsewhere in Texas, El Paso (No. 21) beats out Dallas-Fort Worth (No. 31), Houston (No. 58), Corpus Christi (No. 62), and McAllen (No. 92).
