Dreamy new boutique hotel floats onto San Antonio River Walk

A 217-room hotel featuring two restaurants and a bar is floating onto the San Antonio River Walk.
New York City-based Dream Hotel Group LLC says it plans to open Dream San Antonio in 2023. Aside from the two restaurants and bar, the proposed hotel includes a rooftop pool deck, fitness center, and 10,000-square-foot meeting space.
A Dream property also is on tap for Dallas, but Dream Hotel Group spokeswoman Katie Fontana says the San Antonio hotel likely will open first.
Fontana says she can’t disclose the address of the proposed hotel. But according to the Rivard Report, the hotel will be at 107 E. Martin St., across from the Wyndham San Antonio River Walk. The Korova, a live music venue at that address, closed in 2017.
Dream Hotel Group hopes to start construction on the San Antonio location in 2021, Fontana says.
The company says the boutique hotel will be the “centerpiece” of a mixed-use development that includes office space and residences, “transforming a full city block into a communal gathering place for hotel guests and locals alike.”
“San Antonio is one of the most authentic, passionate and diverse cities in America, as seen through its bold culture, rich history, and burgeoning art, music, and culinary scenes — making it an ideal destination for the Dream Hotels flag,” Dream Hotel Group CEO Jay Stein says in a January 27 release. “We are proud to be a part of this incredible development, with Dream San Antonio setting the standard for what a hotel should be in the heart of dynamic downtown San Antonio.”
Boston-based CUBE3 Architects is designing Dream San Antonio, which the hotel group says “is poised to become a new catalyst for the area and an integral part of the ‘new’ downtown San Antonio scene.”
“The Dream Hotels brand is a great fit for this exceptional city and represents everything San Antonio has to offer — an abundance of character and historical charm within a fast-growing and hip urban core combined with unique gastronomy and outdoor events filled with art and music,” Christian Glauser Benz, vice president of development for Dream Hotel Group, says in the release.
The San Antonio property is one of more than 20 new hotels on the horizon for Dream Hotel Group, whose lodging brands include Dream Hotels, Time Hotels, The Chatwal, Unscripted Hotels, and By Dream Hotel Group. In the U.S., hotels like the one planned for San Antonio already operate in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, and Nashville.
