Heir to Getty oil fortune reportedly found dead in San Antonio hotel room

An heir to the $5.4 billion Getty oil fortune has died in a San Antonio hotel room, leaving behind more questions than answers.
John Gilbert Getty passed away on Friday, November 20, in a yet to be identified hotel local. TMZ was first to report the news.
According to TMZ, the musician was found unresponsive in his hotel room. Law officers reportedly told the tabloid that foul play was not suspected and they're awaiting an autopsy to reveal Getty's cause of death. He was 52.
A statement issued by the Getty family on November 23 confirmed his death. Getty was the grandson of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, namesake of the famed Getty Museum in Los Angeles, among other institutions.
According to Forbes, the Getty family fortune sits at more than $5.4 billion, making them one of America's richest families.
"With a heavy heart, Gordon Getty announces the death of his son, John Gilbert Getty," reads the Getty family statement. "John leaves behind his daughter, Ivy Getty, whom he loved beyond measure, and his brothers Peter and Billy."
Getty's death was proceeded by the death of his mother, Ann, just two months ago. Ann Getty died on September 17 after suffering a heart attack during a family dinner in San Francisco, the New York Timesreported.
John Gilbert Getty's only child, Ivy, posted an Instagram tribute to her dad, writing, "My father was awesome — coolest man to ever land on this planet and I will forever be the proudest daughter. Love you so much Dad....life is cruel sometimes."
