A-GLAZE-ING
Shipley Do-Nuts rolls out far west San Antonio shop with free treats

Shipley Do-Nuts will open its latest San Antonio shop on August 1.
A Texas childhood mainstay is on the rise in San Antonio. Houston-based Shipley Do-Nuts is opening a new shop at 234 Valley Hi Dr near Lackland Air Force Base, bringing glazed treats, coffee, and kolaches to the city's Far West Side on August 1.
The Houston-based chain is ubiquitous throughout Texas, where it has provided quick breakfasts and office pick-me-ups since 1936. But the new Alamo City outpost is a little different. The shop is only the 12th company-owned location.
Shipley is known for uniquely octagonally cut doughnuts, available in more than 60 varieties ranging from Bavarian cream bars to Bullseyes, traditional raised doughnuts with a divot cut out for jellies and creams. Although hardly traditional, the chain's kolaches — technically meat-filled klobásník — give guests a savory choice.
To celebrate its grand opening, the new Shipley store is giving back to both its customers and the wider community. On August 1, every visitor will receive a free glazed doughnut, and on August 2, the company will be donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the San Antonio Food Bank.
"As we open our newest shop in San Antonio, we wanted to do more than just serve great doughnuts and kolaches – we wanted to provide assistance to our community during a challenging time," said Flynn Dekker, CEO of Shipley Do-Nuts, in a release. "Shipley's growth isn't just about opening new locations. It's about expanding our ability to make a meaningful impact in the communities we cherish and serve."
The opening coincides with a momentous time for the Shipley team. On July 28, owner Peak Rock Capital sold the brand to California-based Levine Leichtman Capital Partners, a firm with a reputation for rapidly growing franchises such as Tropical Smoothie Cafe. The move does not appear to have any immediate effect on operations.
After its debut, the 234 Valley Hi Drive Shipley Do-Nuts will be open 5 am-8 pm daily.
