OPENING ALERT
Go-to San Antonio salad truck opens new Northeast Side drive-thru

Sensational Salads and Wraps is now parked on the Northeast Side.
Go-to San Antonio food truck Sensational Salads and Wraps has found a permanent home, opening its first brick-and-mortar at 2235 Thousand Oaks Dr. on Monday, June 23. The new, albeit cozy, San Antonio restaurant offers the same fresh flavors with the convenience of a drive-thru.
The popular trailer announced its debut via a series of social media posts highlighting progress on its diminutive home. The building, once home to a tiny taqueria and a smoothie shop, is still a cramped space but offers greater efficiency.
Co-owners Trey Van Cleave and Scott Akin first opened the concept as The Sensational Salad Station, and have been a lunch fixture at area businesses since 2012. The menu offers more than a dozen variations of salads and wraps, from a classic Cobb to pesto chicken.
Each of the variations is customizable with a choice of protein and a bevy of dressings like ranch, sriracha honey mustard, ginger-teriyaki, and a rotating fruit vinaigrette. All are available to home cooks via a side business, Sensational Saucery, which also sells gourmet chipotle mayo and spice mixes.
Fans can add a side of sweet potato fries or fried okra for a little crunch. Guests can smother the snacks in shredded Cheddar, bacon bits, and spicy ranch if they’re not too concerned with healthy eating.
Prices hover around $10-$15, even with add-ons like slice steak and fried shrimp. Kids can opt for an unfussy chicken and cheese wrap or tenders for an affordable $8.
After the June 23 opening, Sensational Salad and Wraps will be open Monday-Saturday, 11 am-9 pm. It’s unclear if the food truck will still be in circulation. The owners have not made any announcements, but the truck’s calendar is empty after Tuesday, June 24.
