San Antonio’s Saint City Supper Club relaunches after 2-year break

Piatti's Giuseppe DeStefano will be the first chef featured by the reborn Saint City Supper Club.
One of San Antonio’s most-missed pop-up experiences is making a surprise comeback. Saint City Supper Club is throwing its first dinner in more than two years with Piatti Executive Chef Giuseppe DeStefano on October 2.
Industry vet Joel Rivas founded the supper club in 2017 as a way to give back. At the same time, he founded the Saint City Culinary Foundation, a hospitality nonprofit that aimed to recruit more women into professional kitchens and help address mental health disparities in the field.
After a six year run, and numerous events, Rivas decided to close the foundation in April 2023, saying it was “the best course of action moving forward.” The supper club has not staged any dinners since.
Rivas says the new version of Saint City Supper Club will be a little different. He has no plans to reopen the charitable organization, but also won’t be taking a profit. Instead, ticket sales will cover rentals and ensure the chefs and support staff receive fair pay.
“This time around we’re just doing it for kicks, and to promote great talent,” Rivas says via an Instagram message.
Rivas shares that the club is aiming for four dinners over the next 12 months. While the original Saint City threw large scale parties ranging from crawfish boils to tiki feasts, the 2.0 version will highlight San Antonio’s unsung culinary talent.
“The focus will primarily be really interesting collabs, shining spotlights on local chefs, and providing some very cool nights for our people,” says Rivas.
Rivas is keeping the venue mum for now, but says tickets will go on sale for the DeStefano dinner on Monday, September 8. Follow the reborn Saint City Supper Club on Instagram for more details.
