Acclaimed Ro-Ho Pork & Bread finally opens new San Antonio drive-thru

Ro-Ho Pork & Bread's new location is now open.
One of San Antonio’s most acclaimed sandwich shops is pressing the gas with a new drive-thru restaurant. Ro-Ho Pork & Bread has opened a second outlet at 618 Fair Ave., bringing its famed tortas ahogadas to the South Side.
The location, housed in a shipping container, has been in the works since early 2022, but construction hit some early snags. In July 2023, vandals broke into the job site, cutting wires throughout the building.
“The grand opening of our new location…will be postponed after we experienced a saddening act of vandalism to our electrical system during construction,” the restaurant wrote at the time. “We are already working hard not to allow this setback to delay our mission of delivering quality food and connecting to a new neighborhood in San Antonio.”
For months, it looked like the new spot wouldn’t happen. Ro-Ho last updated customers on progress in May 2025, saying it was waiting for the contractor to complete its work.
Guadalajara native Jorge Roja first opened Ro-Ho in 2015, building on his experience working in Jalisco restaurants and studies at St. Philips Culinary Art Program. The concept quickly gained a name for his from-scratch approach.
That eventually led to national acclaim. In 2021, Food & Wine magazine declared his tortas ahogadas the best sandwich in Texas, saying they will “haunt your dreams.” Then, in 2024, Guy Fieri’s 1968 Camaro rolled up for an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Although its he menu makes room for tacos, nachos, and “Chilakillers,” Roja’s riff on chilaquiles, Ro-Ho is most known for its take on Guadalajara’s most celebrated sandwich — a crusty birote sourdough roll topped with carnitas or avocado and bean puree and drenched in a chile de arbol sauce.
Newcomers should be warned that the sandwiches are messy. Ro-Ho thoughtfully provides a roll of paper towels, but a visit is not the time to break out a new white shirt. Sloppy or not, the tortas' deliciousness warrant a 2026 nomination for CultureMap San Antonio's 2026 Tastemaker Awards.
The drive-up Ro-Ho is currently in its soft opening phase, according to a social media announcement. Current hours are between 11 am and 6 pm daily, except for Wednesdays when it’s closed.
