San Antonio Restaurant Weeks stretches summer run
San Antonio's Restaurant Weeks is now 22 days.
Culinaria’s biannual San Antonio Restaurant Weeks is about to become a restaurant month, well, almost. The summer dining tradition has been extended a full seven days to run August 8 through 29.
The hospitality industry advocacy nonprofit Culinaria started the promotion in 2010 as a way to raise funds while helping restaurants ride out off-peak dining seasons. Since then, it has grown with the San Antonio dining scene, adding a winter run and prolonged days.
Here's how it works: Twice a year, more than 150 restaurants offer three-course menus for a discounted price. The deals cover almost every type of service imaginable, from boozy Sunday brunches to date-night dinners.Brunch prices are set at $25 per guest, lunch can vary from $20-$30, and dinners can run $35-$55 depending on the menu.
Many of the participants also feature wine pairings, specialty cocktails, and additional add-ons for guests who want to treat themselves to a wallet-friendly splurge.
Each year, the participating concepts are an honor roll of local culinary talent. The list spans upscale faves like Ladino, newcomers such as King William Wine Co., and even a few national chains.
A word of warning to the uninitiated: chefs are notoriously slow to submit full menus. Although diners may want to make early reservations for the buzziest spots, there is no guarantee that they’ll know what they’ll be eating. But part of the fun of Restaurant Weeks is trying new things. Barring dietary restrictions, it’s fun to just approach the promotion wild style.
