5 new openings and food hall love bowl over San Antonio dining news

San Antonio is getting bowled over this week with the openings of two healthy Mediterranean restaurants, a swanky ice house, and a new all-day brunch spot from one of the area's favorite Italian eateries. Read on for more dining news from Alamo City's always bustling food scene.

Openings and closings

The North Side is nabbing San Antonio's first location of Mediterranean chain Hummus Republic. According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records, the California-based company will wrap up renovations at 842 NW Loop 410 in July. The restaurant is similar to concepts like Cava, serving bowls, wraps, and various dips. The franchise currently has no other outposts in Texas.

James Beard Award-nominated chef Levi Goode has announced the opening date for Otto's Ice House, his highly anticipated foray into Pearl. The restaurant, which will serve cold beer and Texas fare like street tacos, bratwurst, and Frito pie, will officially open to the public on April 15.

A new downtown option for a healthy lunch has quietly opened in Make Ready Market. Owner Muhammet Ikbal Baylan has expanded Alamo Ranch favorite Bowls N Go to the food hall, serving customizable curry bowls and falafel wraps. In addition to the customizable dishes, the kiosk also serves Mediterranean desserts like baklava and kazandibi, a flan-like treat.

Nearby, gourmet snack shop Alamo City Popcorn appears to be shaking things up with a new location at 630 NW Loop 410. The local company is known for its vast assortment of 55 flavors, ranging from standbys like chili lime to sweet surprises like banana. According to the TDLR listing, construction will end in early June.

A coveted restaurant space at 518 River Rd. in Boerne is undergoing a switcheroo. Rivulet Kitchen & Barcalled it quits on March 30, teasing it would pivot to a new location. On April 1, Alan Williams, the co-founder of the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group, broke the news that the owners of Albi's Vite Italian Kitchen would soon open an all-day brunch spot called Sunny's. The opening date is still up in the air.

The Bottling Department is up for Best Food Hall in USA Today's annual reader-voted 10Best awards. The food hall has gained a reputation as a culinary incubator, introducing new concepts like Freight Fried Chicken, Wonder Slice, and Howdy Child. Fans can vote here.
