H-E-B reveals timeline for new $29M store in red-hot Far West Side

A new Far West Side H-E-B is nearing completion.
San Antonio’s booming Far West Side has another new business to crow about — a brand-new $29 million H-E-B. A rep from the beloved local grocer confirms that the 126,986-square-foot store at 15489 Culebra Rd. will be completed by late 2025 or early 2026, giving those outside the loop a more convenient spot to buy butter tortillas than Alamo Ranch.
Locals first got wind of the store through a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation listing that initially estimated a summer 2025 completion. The San Antonio retailer has been typically tight-lipped about new project, sharing few details.
However, a project page on H-E-B’s development website does offer a few clues as to what’s in store. The outpost will include gas pumps, a carwash, a drive-thru pharmacy, a curbside pick-up station, and — perhaps most excitingly — a H-E-B True Texas BBQ restaurant. Two pad retail buildings will complete the compound.
The area isn’t exactly a grocery desert. Two other H-E-B locations are within a 15-minute drive at 12125 Alamo Ranch Pkwy. and 19325 Potranco Rd. But San Antonio’s sprawl has increasingly pointed westward with new housing and retail developments and Big Tech data centers.
Some of the more notable projects on the Far West Side include the $3.48 million Delphi at Potranco and the restaurant-heavy Portico at Shaenfield Ranch. Local entertainment giant Santikos is also building a complex at Potranco Road and Highway 211 with luxury auditoriums, a bowling alley, and an arcade.
In early August, H-E-B opened a new 111,000-square-foot store at 7330 N Loop 1604 W in College Park. Like the upcoming Culebra Road location, it serves a rapidly growing community, the equally red-hot area around the University of Texas at San Antonio main campus.
