San Antonio celebrity chef rehauls River Walk mall with 4 restaurants and more
A top-tier chef taking over a mall food court may not have been on anyone’s 2024 bingo card, but Jason Dady has always defied expectations. Still, Mexico Ceaty, an upcoming collection of eateries curated in partnership with Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation, is a particular surprise.
Set to debut in early 2025, Mexico Ceaty will re-envision 21,000 square feet of existing food court space at the Shops at Rivercenter into a dining, entertainment, and shopping destination inspired by Mexican and San Antonian culture. The complex will include a stage for live music and performing arts, a marketplace, and several food kiosks.
This isn't just a food court — it’s an experience,” said Dady via a release. “Our goal with Mexico Ceaty is to create a space where locals and visitors can enjoy the flavors and traditions of Mexico while celebrating the unique spirit of our city.”
In addition to a tortilleria, taqueria, ceviche bar, fruteria, and Baja burrito stand, Mexico Ceaty will feature four full-service concepts. On the dining side, Tres Arcos will focus on Tex-Mex cuisine, while Dulce Aroma will offer coffee, panaderia-style pastries, and breakfast tacos. A pair of bars – Dos Cantinas and the more intimate El Ultimo — will keep the area bussing into the night.
The Mercado, the retail portion of the endeavor, will likely be a tourist favorite. The planners have promised goods like housemade salsas, handmade kitchen utensils, and artisan crafts.
The announcement of Mexico Ceaty comes during a rush of new energy to the late-’80s mall. Post pandemic, the area around Rivercenter has seen an influx of new concepts including posh Spanish import Enrique Tomas and glitzy influencer favorite Sugar Factory. Via the release, Joe Press, chief operating officer of Ashkenazy Acquisition, hinted that even more splashy operators will be announced in the upcoming months.
