COMING ATTRACTIONS
San Antonio's beloved La Panadería expands with 2 new bakeries
It looks like there’s no stopping San Antonio's La Panadería Bakery Café. Two months after debuting a new restaurant in Stone Oak, the beloved Alamo City chain is already working on two new locations in Alamo Ranch and Southtown.
The Alamo Ranch location will be in the Culebra Commons shopping center at West Loop 1604 N. near popular restaurants like Texas Roadhouse and Taco Palenque. Signage has also popped up at 812 South Alamo St., the former home of Brown Coffee Co. The latter was previously announced in 2024, originally planning for a 2025 opening.
Founded as a pop-up in 2013 at the Quarry Farmers Market by brothers José and David Cáceres, La Panadería has since become one of San Antonio's biggest culinary phenomena. In 2022, José became the first local to be nominated for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker.
The mini-chain has also become increasingly popular. Tourists and locals line up daily for pan dulce and fusion treats like the croncha — a hybrid between a croissant and a Mexican concha. Those seeking something more substantial can enjoy a variety of sandwiches and salads, as well as all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.
Like the La Cantera Heights, Midtown, and Stone Oak outposts, the Alamo Ranch cafe will include a full bar with beer, wine, and mimosa kits. Higher octane offerings include margaritas, palomas, spritzes, and coffee cocktails like carajillos. A release did not reveal any new particulars on the Southtown spot.
La Panadería says the Alamo Ranch location will be up and running by late fall, but did not give a timeline on the Southtown location. Once open, the two spots will join the five other cafes in the growing pan dulce chain.
