Jeni's ice creams sets opening date for first San Antonio shop

One of San Antonio’s few locally owned brunch spots is facing an uncertain future. After unceremoniously shuttering its Olmos Park location in 2025, Full Belly Cafe + Bar has suspended operations at 427 N. 1604 — at least for a year.

The timeline of the two closures is a little murky. The restaurant has not issued a public statement about either restaurant, and its social media accounts have been dormant since February. The Olmos Park outpost, at 4212 McCullough Ave, appears to be gone for good. In undated 2025 comments, Yelpers reported that the place had vacated the space and posted a notice on its doors.

However, there may be more hope for the original location in the Sonterra Village shopping center. The Yelp page says Full Belly is scheduled to return July 1, 2027. A request for clarification was not returned in time for publication.

Restaurateur Blade Haddock and former Boiler House chef James Moore first opened Full Belly in 2020, calling its menu "seasonal American cuisine with a global spin." The spot was one of the first in San Antonio to latch onto the trendy “all-day cafe” format, paying just as much attention to the AM services as dinner.

Menu items were swapped out frequently, but they frequently had Texas inspiration. A breakfast poutine was blanketed with a pile of barbacoa, French toast was sprinkled with candied pecans, and a signature Benedict was slathered in red-eye gravy.

Although the offerings were well-received, the concept faced troubles from the start. Soon after its February 2020 opening, the COVID-19 pandemic spread nationwide, forcing a six-month hiatus. More recently, it had to make air-conditioning repairs and replace a window damaged by a hit-and-run.

And the business environment shifted, too. In the 2020s, national brunch chains like First Watch and Snooze have proliferated across Alamo City. Local operators also caught up to the idea, with Box St. All Day becoming an instant hit.It is unclear if any of those factors played into the Full Belly hiatus or even if it will reemerge with the same branding.
