SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Favorite San Antonio burger joint abruptly closes East Side location

Everybody Loves Raymonds has shuttered its East Side location.
Central San Antonians who want to try one of the city’s best-kept burger secrets will now have to drive a little further. Everybody Loves Raymonds closed its East Side restaurant at 2118 N I-35 Frontage Rd. on March 23.
“As of Monday, our downtown location has closed,” wrote the business on Facebook. “We fought hard to stay open after the new year, but it's just not in God's plan for us.”
Everybody Loves Raymonds did not elaborate on the reasoning behind the closure. But the near New Braunfels Avenue spot may have struggled to attract drive-by traffic. The spot is easy to miss when exiting the highway and has seen a string of short-lived concepts, most recently snack shop Alamo City Addiction.
Everybody Loves Raymonds wasn’t always known for its burgers. The Far South Side restaurant, then called Alicia's Mexican Restaurant, opened in 1991 with a traditional Tex-Mex menu. When Raymond Diaz took over the family business in 2013, he decided to try something a little different.
Soon, the massive burgers became the business’ biggest draw, and Diaz began experimenting with Tex-Mex flavors. The patties were topped with brisket and Cheddar, Frito pie, Hot Cheetos, and even enchiladas. The fries followed suit with a scoop of carne asada.
The popularity of the specials and buzz on internet forums like the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group led Diaz to open the East Side location in early 2025. The new spot was more tightly focused on its standout product, served alongside crunchy snacks like nachos and tots.
Local fans who need a burger fix can visit Everybody Loves Raymonds’ original South Bexar County location at 18600 Pleasanton Rd. Hours are 10 am-9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday, and 10 am-6 pm, Sunday.
