McDonald's debuts CosMc's beverage-focused spinoff in San Antonio
Ubiquitous fast-food chain McDonald's finally opened the first San Antonio location of its buzzy new "small-format, beverage-led concept" CosMc's on Thursday, August 8.
The beverage spinoff (located at 12360 FM 1957 in San Antonio) will celebrate its grand opening from 10 am to 4 pm on August 10-11 with free samples and exclusive merch for the first 100 customers each day.
McDonald's first teased in December 2023 that its new futuristic beverage concept would be coming to the city. The San Antonio CosMc's is the fourth location that has opened in Texas, with six more scheduled to open across the Dallas and San Antonio metro areas "in the coming months," per a press release. CosMc's currently operates four other locations, in Arlington, Dallas, Watauga, and Bolingbrook, Illinois.
The San Antonio location is the first CosMc's to feature an outdoor lobby area and covered patio, allowing customers to order via the restaurant's drive thru, self serve kiosks, or walk-up windows. For those who download the CosMc's app and join the "Cosmc's Club" loyalty program, guests can receive a free welcome drink, a free birthday item, and points with every purchase that can later be redeemed for rewards.

Contributing to the spacey vibe, CosMc's beverage menu encourages guests to customize their favorite drinks, and surprisingly co-opts a bit of wellness language, claiming "functional boosts" — although these mostly seem to be about gaining energy (as claimed by the Sour Cherry Energy Burst). The release says fan-favorite personalizations include adding "fruity popping boba to [the] Tropical Spiceade or an Energy Shot to the Blackberry Mint Green Tea."
A new menu item debuting on the menu is the "Sprite Moonsplash," which combines the lemon-lime soda with even more citrus and sweet vanilla flavors, and is topped with dried blueberries and a lemon wheel.
Non-coffee options mostly stick to teas and lemonades, plus some blended drinks. A full menu gets more specific about ingredients and more standard orders.
Although it is beverage-led, the concept does also offer several food options. Most notably, Egg McMuffins make an appearance alongside two sort of Tex-Mex breakfast sandwiches: the "Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich" with bacon, and the "Spicy Queso Sandwich," which dresses up a sausage patty. Savory hashbrown bites are another highlight of the dining offerings.
CosMc's San Antonio is open from 7 am to 10 pm seven days a week. More information can be found at cosmcs.com.
