Valley coffee shop and bookstore writes new chapter in San Antonio
The Caffeine Library is opening a San Antonio location.
A Rio Grande Valley shop known for its cozy vibes will soon put its stamp on San Antonio. Combination bookstore and coffeehouse The Caffeine Library will open its second location at 6707 Hausman Rd. on the Northwest Side.
“It’s official! The Caffeine Library is coming to San Antonio! Talk about a plot twisttt,” wrote the business in an Instagram announcement. “Thanks to you, our little family dream is growing. We're bringing the books, amazing coffee, and the community you helped build to a new location.”
Carlos and Jaime Montelongo opened the Edinburg shop in September 2025 with a goal of providing a third space for University of Texas Rio Grande Valley students. The brothers told ABC affiliate KRGV that the idea came from their shared love of coffee and reading.
Naturally, that combination led to some themed lattes. The Banned Book layers cinnamon, brown sugar, and cayenne while the Paperback Romance includes lavender, agave, and real rose petals.
The books are just as eclectic, running the gamut from contemporary literary fiction to classics to YA. Its Bookstore.org site even includes a Wemby reading list with fantastical picks like Frank Herbert’s Dune and Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series.
In addition to providing a homey spot for swooning over romantasy, The Caffeine Library is a community hub offering author signings, open mic nights, vendor markets, and film screenings. In its announcement, the shop didn’t say whether San Antonio followed suit, but the video walkthrough showed plenty of space for extracurricular offerings.
According to a new Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation project filing, work on the space will not be completed until March 2027. The Montelongo brothers say they’ll be posting updates on Instagram as they hit important milestones.
