SHOCKING SHUTTERS
Gourmet burger joint unexpectedly shutters 2nd San Antonio location

Gourmet San Antonio burger joint Bunz Handcrafted Burgers has closed its location at 6819 N Loop 1604 W. This shutter comes just two years after the San Antonio burger restaurant expanded beyond its downtown flagship.
It’s unclear when the location fired down the grills. As MySA first reported, the building now has a for lease sign in one of the windows and a hand-scrawled message on the door that reads, “Bye 1604. Closed. Thank you 4 ur support.” CultureMap has independently confirmed the closure.
The restaurant has not released a formal statement about the shutter. The Google business listing says the location is “temporarily closed,” and it is still listed on the company website. An Instagram account for the second outpost is still online but has not posted since 2024.
Chefs Thierry Burkle and Edwin Salazar debuted the original location at 122 E. Houston St. in 2020. The concept is similar to Austin import Hopdoddy Burger Bar, serving a variety of proteins on freshly baked brioche buns topped with cheffy flourishes like roasted poblano peppers, caramelized onions, and Bartlett pears.
Bunz expanded near the University of Texas San Antonio campus in April 2023. Dubbed Bunz Express, the spot offered a similar menu to the downtown original and a convenient drive-thru.
The downtown location remains open for business. We will update this story if any further information develops.
