COMEBACK KID
Shuttered Hill Country icehouse stages surprising comeback

Billy's Ice will live on under a new name and new location.
After announcing a permanent closure, New Braunfels' beloved Billy's Ice is getting a coda. In an unexpected move, the live music venue announced it would be reborn in a new location and under a new name, Bobby's Ice.
In late August, the owners of the popular Hill Country bar announced that it would shutter on October 1. The bar had been serving cold ones at 1193 Loop 337 Ramp for 16 years, first as a convenience store and later as an icehouse.
"This is a post I knew would come at some point, but it doesn't make it any less emotional," wrote a Billy's rep at the time. "A number of factors played into [the sale of the property,] but at the end of the day, it's what had to happen. There will be a new business at the location, but Billy's will live on in our hearts and memories."
Bobby's will continue the tradition under the same owners, but they are staying tight-lipped on the address for now. The post explained that the lease agreement was still being finalized.
The name change provoked mostly bemused reactions and several King of the Hill gifs featuring an excited Bobby Hill. In the comments, the owners explained that founder Bill Sisoian had not been a part of the business for seven years.
"It didn't feel right having Billy's be anywhere other than 1193 Loop 337," they wrote." Having said that, more details to come, but it's looking like we will be good to go in about a month."
Fans will have to follow the bar on social media to see if it can recapture the magic of the old spot, but the longtime patrons seem to be taking the shift in stride.
"To everyone who knew it, Billy's ice was a building, not a name," wrote one fan. "Awesome choice to let it fade. Best of luck, Bobby's Ice."
