SUDDEN SHUTTERS
Bill Miller Bar-B-Q to close busy Northwest San Antonio location
Bill Miller Bar-B-Q is closing a popular location.
Social media may currently be abuzz about Bill Miller Bar-B-Q’s new limited-time cheeseburger, but you won’t be able to try it at 9202 Wurzbach Rd. near Medical Center. The San Antonio chain is closing the long-running location on May 24.
The restaurant offered no reason for the shutter, instead thanking customers for their “loyalty and patronage.” The post pointed guests to two nearby locations at 8811 Huebner Rd. and 10723 Huebner Rd.
CultureMap could not find the exact date the restaurant opened, but the outpost is one of the older models familiar to San Antonians through its dark brown awning and brick-clad walls. Recently, the company has been pursuing a more contemporary look with stainless steel counters, faux chalkboard walls, and bright orange metal bistro chairs.
The outdated design didn’t stop commenters from bemoaning the closure, which many insisted had a steady stream of customers. Several fans alluded to the rocky state of San Antonio’s restaurant industry, which is weathering high food costs, labor shortages, and a steady stream of failed businesses. Bill Miller did not immediately return a request for more info on their decision.
“Wow!! This is a busy store. This is our reality now,” wrote one follower, echoing a previous comment, “And it starts.”
Bill Miller has been racking up headlines this week, not all of them flattering. Food website The Daily Meal declared that it was the worst barbecue chain in the U.S., although seemingly without an in-person taste test. The new affordable burgers — a nod to the chain’s original menu — also made a splash, and are currently a fixation of local food forums.
