Classic San Antonio burger joint closes after 25 years in Live Oak

Biff Buzby's ended 2025 with a closure.
After 25 years in business, one of San Antonio’s favorite burger joints has called it a day. In a candid statement, Biff Buzby’s Burgers said it was closing its 12702 Toepperwein Rd #130 restaurant “indefinitely.”
“For 25 years, this place has been so much more than a burger joint,” the business wrote on social media. “It has been a gathering place, a second home, a dream come true, and a true labor of love. Over the years, we’ve had the honor of serving generations of families, watching kids grow up, celebrating milestones, sharing laughs, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.”
Donna and Ron Humphreys founded the Live Oak burger joint in 1999, basing their concept on a shared love of burgers. After Donna passed in 2019, Francis Rogers III eventually took over the business, updating the logo but not the classic American fare.
Biff Buzby’s did not give an exact reason for the closure, but did share that the decision came with “sadness, reflection, gratitude, and so much pride.” The statement took time to thank its customers and the employees who ran the spot over its more than two-decade run.
“From the moment we opened our doors 25 years ago, this community embraced us in ways we could have never imagined,” a rep wrote. “Your loyalty, kindness, support, and love are what made Biff Buzby’s Burgers what it became. Through the good times and the hard times, you showed up for us — day after day, year after year — and for that, we are endlessly grateful.”
San Antonio was hit with an abrupt string of sudden closures as 2025 came to an end. Among the recent casualties were acclaimed ramen spot Noodle Tree and two Pearl concepts — brunch cafe Full Goods Diner and Chef Steve McHugh’s Cured.
