What’s brewing in San Antonio: Have a hoppy holiday at these 8 beer events
Craft beer fans in and around San Antonio have plenty of opportunities to close out the holidays properly with sudsy seasonal festivities.
The Growler Exchange holiday party
December 21 at 6:30 pm, 4130 Broadway
This to-go beer bar will have a food truck onsite offering rice bowls in addition to the bar’s usual pizza dishes. Plus, Mrs. Claus will be giving aways presents. The Growler Exchange will also have $4 mystery cans and Christmas beer specials all day long.
"Sexy Santa" and a show at Artisan Distillery and Craft Bar
December 22 at 7 pm, 402 Austin St.
Kick off the evening at the near-East Side distillery and brewery while enjoying Ian Doescher's performance of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol — a recitation with a tipsy twist as actors imbibe. Afterward, “Sexy Santa” will visit and take photos with patrons. Pictures and show donations will benefit the San Antonio AIDS Foundation.
Busted Sandal ugly sweater contest
December 22 from 4:30-10 pm, 7114 Oaklawn Dr.
Busted Sandal Brewing Co. will host its annual ugly Christmas sweater party and contest. Guests who get into the spirit of things will receive 25% off their tab. Inspiration is available on the company's Instagram account — view at your own eyes' risk.
Last Chance Christmas Market at Second Pitch
December 23 from 1-5 pm, 11935 Starcrest Dr.
The recently expanded Second Pitch Beer Co. will host its final Last Chance Christmas Market of the year, with local vendors and artisans offering various handmade and homemade items and treats.
Alamo Beer Alamo Bowl party
December 28 from 3 pm to close, 202 Lamar St.
Alamo Beer Co. will again host a pre-Alamo Bowl bash, complete with $3 cans of Golden Ale and Amber Lager, food trucks, and limited edition Wild Cat Lager and Boomer Bock brews available on site. Fans headed to the nearby Alamodome for the big game are invited to park their car at the brewery for $5 and walk the Hays Street bridge or take a short rideshare to the stadium. Those going to the game may also snag a $15 case of Alamo brews for their own tailgate.
Bandera Brewery murder mystery
December 31 at 8 pm, 3540 Texas Hwy. 16 S.
Bandera Brewery will host a 1920s murder mystery performance as part of its New Year’s Eve festivities. Guests will be assigned a character to help crack the case. Awards will be given to best 1920s-style costume and other categories. The night concludes with a midnight fireworks display.
New Year’s Eve at Kunstler Brewing Tap Haus
December 31 at 8 pm, 510 S. Alamo St., Ste. 101
Kunstler Tap Haus, the downtown outlet for Kunstler Brewing Co., will offer a private New Year’s Eve celebration surrounded by the revelry at Hemisfair. A ticket affords each partygoer seven appetizers, a choice of three beers or cocktails, and a champagne toast at midnight. Limited seating is available.
New Year’s Eve at Roughhouse Brewing
December 31 at 6 pm, 680 Oakwood Loop
This San Marcos-area brewpub will have a pre-midnight fireworks show for visitors. A cash bar will be available outside in addition to the usual indoor bar opportunities.
