GRIND TO A HALT
Utah coffee chain Beans & Brews pulls out of San Antonio

Beans and Brews has pulled out of the San Antonio market.
Less than two years after making its San Antonio debut, Beans & Brews Coffee House has retreated. The Utah-based chain, which once touted ambitious plans to open 40 units in Central Texas, shuttered its Alamo Ranch shop on February 1.
“As we deeply regret to inform you, tomorrow is the last day open,” read a sign taped to the shop’s window. “We appreciate your understanding in this late notice. To our regulars: We loved getting to know you, and to customize each of your drinks just the way you like. We will miss you all!”
The sign was first noticed by a member of the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group and independently confirmed. As commenters noticed in the thread, Beans and Brews quietly began closing locations in 2025.
In October, the chain shuttered an outpost at 9139 Grissom Rd. less than seven months after opening. Since then, it has closed locations at 20821 US-281 in Stone Oak and 711 Navarro St. downtown, according to Yelp and the company’s store locator. Beans and Brews has also seemingly deleted its San Antonio Instagram account.
Brothers Jeff and Kevin Laramie opened the first Beans & Brews coffeehouse in Salt Lake City in 1993. Brame Brands brought the company to San Antonio in January 2024, the first phase of Texas expansion that would eventually take the brand to suburban Fort Worth and Houston.
The chain has not made a public statement about why it is pulling out of Alamo City, but the overall beverage market has become saturated over the past few years with new arrivals like HTeaO, Candy Cloud, The Human Bean, and Scooter’s Coffee while social media savvy chains like Just Love Coffee Cafe and La La Land Kind Cafe are nabbing most of the buzz.
Beans and Brews is not giving up on Texas entirely. A January 30 release said the franchise is continuing its growth in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, while opening more stores near its home base in Nevada and Idaho.
Requests for more information to the Beans and Brews San Antonio Facebook account and corporate office were not immediately returned. The number associated with the location is still in service, but keeps ringing on multiple call attempts. An email to Brame Holdings was pinged back as undeliverable. We will update this article should any of the requests be returned.
