COMING ATTRACTIONS
Cali hot chicken chain flocks to Northwest San Antonio

Angry Chickz will bring more Nashville hot chicken to the Northwest Side.
Another Nashville hot chicken chain is crossing over to San Antonio. California-based Angry Chickz, the latest franchise to take advantage of Alamo City’s hankering for heat, plans to finish up construction on its first San Antonio outpost at 8111 Tezel Rd. in early July.
The spicy restaurant was founded by David Mkhitaryan, an entrepreneur who grew up in the restaurant biz. With the help of his wife and best friend, he opened his first location in East Hollywood in 2018, followed by rapid expansion in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Angry is known for its crispy chicken tenders, sold in a range of heat levels, from the lightly spiced “country” to “angry.” In a bit of P.T. Barnum showmanship, the latter requires guests to sign a waiver.
Once diners negotiate with the Scoville scale, they can order the tenders on signature sliders, on thick toast, or over rice. Or, they can carb-load with one of the bowls piled with various combinations of fries, rice, mac ‘n’ cheese, pickles, slaw, and sauce.
Mega-franchisee Jim Wang, who operates more than 50 restaurants across seven states, first brought the concept to Texas, opening a Houston Angry Chickz to Houston in 2024. At the time, he said he planned to take the concept to San Antonio, but it is not clear if he is involved.
Angry Chickz has yet to officially announce its Northwest Side debut. According to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings, the buildout at the Commons of Tezel Road shopping center, construction on the 2,172-square-foot location will wrap up in July. State project timelines, however, are merely estimates and rarely reflect actual opening dates.
