San Antonio's Alamo Beer taps new owner after bankruptcy filing

Alamo Beer Company has been acquired by an Australian firm.
San Antonio’s Alamo Beer Company has a new owner and a new path forward after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February. Brisbane, Australia private equity firm SKJ Capital has acquired the brewery for an undisclosed amount, allowing the almost three-decade-old brand to continue running.
According to a press release, SKJ Capital will provide “strategic oversight” to stabilize, grow, and avoid the fate of several San Antonio-area breweries struggling with declining sales.” In 2025, the region lost several beer brands, including Man Overboard, Vista Brewing, and Faust Brewing in New Braunfels.
“Alamo Beer Company is a local favorite and a true San Antonio landmark,” said Sam Johnson, chief executive officer of SKJ Capital, via the release. “We’re proud to welcome Alamo into our portfolio.”
As part of the transition, SKJ Capital has appointed Jason Pond as Alamo Beer Co.’s new CEO. The longtime industry vet has nearly 20 years of experience in consumer-packaged goods, manufacturing, and supply chain management, with past roles at Firestone Walker Brewing Company, BrewDog, and Rogue Ales & Spirits.
“Alamo Beer Company has a rich history backed by a strong community here in San Antonio,” Pond said in a statement. “I’m excited to bring new life to the brand while positioning the company for future expansion.”
SKJ’s first expansion into the U.S. market will also bring some changes to Alamo’s East Side flagship. The company plans to modernize the brewing facilities and refresh the Lake Flato-designed taproom to increase the brand’s presence in the community and improve manufacturing capabilities. Alamo Beer will continue to brew its core beers, and buzzy one-offs like the viral King of the Hill collaboration from July.
“With SKJ Capital’s leadership, Alamo Beer Company will continue producing the beers San Antonians know and love while enabling new seasonal releases,” said Eugene Simor, founder of Alamo. “We’re excited to enhance the customer experience and begin this next chapter.”
