Favorite San Antonio coffee shop flips switch on new after-dark wine bar
During the day, the Rosella Coffee location at 203 E. Jones Ave. is all business, providing a sunny place to check emails while fueling up with an Egg Cloud breakfast sandwich. Starting September 9, it will loosen up its necktie as it becomes a wine bar by night.
According to an employee, the outpost will switch over to Rosella After Dark after 5 pm each night. Envisioned as a distinct concept, it will offer wine-friendly fare, dimmed lighting, and louder music to ring in the happy-hour fun.
For now, the chain is keeping the menu mum but did tease that it would include charcuterie and tapas-style small plates. Currently, it only serves breakfast plates like waffles, biscuits, and oatmeal, and an assortment of panini for lunch.
The new direction will keep the Jones location in line with Rosella at the Rand downtown, which is a popular nightlife destination. That outpost offers snacks like chicken wings, chilled Gulf shrimp, and parmesan fries.
Founded by former KSAT anchor Charles Gonzales in 2014, Rosella has had rapid growth over the past few years. Rosella at the Rand roared into downtown in October 2017, followed by a shop at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens on March 2018.
Rosella After Dark will kick be open 5-9 pm Monday through Thursday and 5-10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
