SUPERFOOD TO THE RESCUE
San Antonio chef goes bananas with new acai bowl concept
A new San Antonio eatery is hoping to bring a little color into locals’ lives with the philosophy that life is just a bowl of … acai.
Novo Acai Bowls, a healthy bowl and smoothie concept, will open at 9577 Huebner Rd. in Northwest San Antonio on Saturday, May 15.
The new restaurant venture is a concept from founder and chef Duekbok Cha, who locals may know from San Antonio sushi joint Yummi Japanese Restaurant. Novo will focus on healthy grab-and-go options, though indoor and patio diners are also welcome to sit a spell while slurping down a smoothie.
Novo’s signature bowls are built on the foundation of superfood acai and anchor the menu alongside such specials as the wildly colorful Dragon Bowl, which is made with organic dragon fruit — otherwise known as pitaya — and coconut milk, strawberries, banana, mango, pineapple, honey, and granola.
The smoothie menu, which features both fruit- and veggie-based bevs, includes the signature Novo Yay smoothie, made with acai juice, banana, strawberry, honey, and almond butter; the Morning Mood smoothie, with banana, almond butter, chia seeds, cacao powder, and cacao nibs; and the adorably named Tropikale smoothie, with spinach, mango, pineapple, banana, almond milk, and — you guessed it — kale.
While the spacious patio and cozy, colorful, plant-adorned interior lend Novo a sleek style, it is likely to be the restaurant’s custom-made neon sign — reading “Let’s spoon” — that will attract Intagrammers and clever selfie takers.
In celebration of its grand opening, Novo will treat diners to a pretty sweet deal: On Saturday, May 15 from 9 am-7pm, Novo will offer buy-one-get-one-half-off deals on every menu item.
Following its opening, Novo will be open daily from 9 am-7 pm.
