On Wednesday morning, the highly anticipated semifinalists for the 2016 James Beard Awards were announced, and one San Antonio chef is in the running.
Steve McHugh is up for Best Chef: Southwest, a hot competition between the best culinary stars in the region.
McHugh earns the nod for his work at Cured, the charcuterie-focused restaurant in the burgeoning Pearl district. McHugh was executive chef of San Antonio's Lüke before opening Cured, his first solo endeavor, in late 2013.
The James Beard Awards will be held on May 2 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Look for the final nominees to be announced in mid-March.
