Quintessential Texas burger declared one of the best in America
The best burger in Texas? You'll have to head west to find it. That's according to Food & Wine's juicy new list.
The magazine hassingled out the 30 best burgers in America, and Texas staple Perini Ranch Steakhouse makes the cut. In fact, the Buffalo Gap restaurant is the only Lone Star State spot on the list.
"Self-taught cowboy cook Tom Perini masters the art of open-flame cooking using mesquite coals at his hay barn turned steakhouse, smack in the middle of the state," says Food & Wine of the quintessential Texas space.
Joining ranks with cult favorites like In-N-Out and Shake Shack is Perini's ranch burger. A hand-patted and grilled patty is topped with a choice of cheddar or provolone cheese, mushrooms, green chilies, and onions. You'll find the burger on the lunch menu and a similarly prepared hamburger steak on the dinner menu.
It'll take you about four hours to hit Buffalo Gap from San Antonio, but the pilgrimage is well worth it. This burger isn't short on accolades — Food Network Magazine deemed it the best burger in Texas, and Texas Monthlydigs it too.
