Patio to End All Patios
Rustic restaurant and bar plans epic patio for San Antonio
One of Dallas' top patio spots is expanding the outdoor fun all the way to San Antonio. The Rustic, a laid-back, Austin-style restaurant and bar, will open a branch at The Rim, the shopping center in Northwest San Antonio. According to the San Antonio Business Journal, the eatery will open in July 2017.
The Rustic comes from FreeRange Concepts, the Dallas-based restaurant group founded by Kyle Noonan and Josh Sepkowitz, with a focus on combining food and beverage with entertainment. Their concepts include Mutts Cantina, a restaurant with dog park in Uptown, and Bowl & Barrel, an upscale bowling alley, which debuted in Dallas, with a spin-off that opened at The Rim in 2015.
On The Rustic, they partnered with Texas singer-songwriter Pat Green, whose participation gives the concept its musical chops. The Dallas branch has a stage with live music a regular part of the mix.
The patio is one of the largest and most celebrated in Dallas. Strings of lights give it a festive feel; a big marquee has the words "The Rustic" in lights. It's open year-round, with oak trees, picnic tables, and a backyard vibe that's become one of the city's most popular trends.
The San Antonio location will hold a capacity of 3,000 people and will span 27,000 square feet, including restaurant and outdoor concert venue.
The menu features "down-home food with a twist," with salads, burgers, tacos, and sandwiches. Appetizers include memorable dishes such as deviled eggs; cactus fritters; chorizo empanadas; and Texas goat cheese, topped with olive oil and served with wood-grilled toast.
It'll go next door to Bowl & Barrel and The General Public, another one of their concepts, a modern gastropub.
They'll be opening a branch of The Rustic in Frisco, the booming suburb north of Dallas, in 2017 and are considering a branch for Houston, where they opened a Bowl & Barrel in August 2016.
