The long-awaited Miniso store at the Rim finally has a grand opening date. The one-stop shop for all things adorable announced on Instagram that the 17822 La Cantera Pkwy location will debut on Saturday, February 28.

The store, founded in 2013 by Chinese entrepreneur Ye Guofu in Guangzhou, China, has quickly become a go-to source for cutesy pop culture items. It specializes in plushies from Sanrio, Powerpuff Girls, Marvel, and more, as well as lunchboxes, stickers, journals, knick-knacks, and jewelry. Think of it as a lifestyle store for your friend who has a My Neighbor Totoro backpack.

In just over a decade, the brand has swept across the world, opening over 6,000 stores. There was some backlash against the company in 2022 for appropriating Japanese "kawaii" marketing and identity, but that didn't stop hordes of shoppers from patronizing the business or slow down the import of Japanese intellectual properties.

Texas has long been a fertile market for anime and Japanese culture, thanks to the dubbing studios in Houston and Dallas, and fan conventions like San Antonio’s San Japan. Miniso first debuted at Ingram Park Mall in 2024, followed by a SouthPark Mall outlet the next year. The new location at the Rim took over the former pOpshelf space after it closed in April.

Typically, Miniso doesn't make a big deal of opening its stores, relying instead on its dedicated customer base and word of mouth. Fans on Instagram responded immediately to the news with fire emojis and promises to be there.

The Miniso grand opening will hand out gift bags to the first 50 customers on Saturday, starting at 10 am, and will offer a 10 percent discount on the entire store’s stock all weekend. Judging by Miniso’s previous grand openings, anyone looking to take advantage of the gift bags (a $50 value) should plan on lining up very early in the morning.

For the rest, you now have another convenient place to buy pillows shaped like chicken legs, Hello Kitty toiletries, Asian snack foods, and Barbie travel mugs.
