Haute dogs
Furry fashion show struts into San Antonio to promote pet adoption
They may call it a catwalk, but the hottest fashion show coming to San Antonio is going to the dogs. On September 20, Alamo City’s haute-est hounds will be strutting their stuff during a swanky event at Brick at Blue Star Arts to promote pet adoption and encourage no-kill shelters across the globe.
According to a release, Adopt the Runway is the first event for Fashionable Adoptions, a nonprofit founded by local Crystal Lopez-Crebs that combines style with animal advocacy.
“I really want to shift the ‘paw’-spective on animal adoption and bring awareness to the help alleviate the overcrowding in the shelter by showcasing the beauty of these animals,” said Lopez-Crebs in a release. “Not everyone will go to a shelter, however if we can increase the awareness of pet adoption in shelters with a fun, fabulous event, the real personalities of these animals can shine."
The runway presentation hopes to find around a dozen furry friends from rescue organizations Spay Neuter Inject Protect of San Antonio (SNIPSA) and San Antonio Animal Care Services a forever home.
Some fabulous felines will also be up for adoption from Wayward Whiskers, a shelter devoted to stray cats with special needs. The group recently had to stop intake to focus on placing their current population of cats with feline immunodeficiency virus.
Joining the four-legged fashionistas will be models wearing the latest styles from some of South Texas’ premier designers, including Giovanna DiZurita, Golden Skyy, Jose Ramirez, and Fabian Alejandro Diaz. Guests can learn more about their inspirations during a panel held before the show.
The furry festivities kick off at 6 pm at Brick at Blue Star Art Complex. Score tickets here.
