Record-breaking new coaster claws into San Antonio's Fiesta Texas

Werewolf Gorge will open in the 2027 season.
Come 2027, Six Flags Fiesta Texas might be howling at the moon. During its 35th season, the San Antonio theme park will debut Werewolf Gorge, a new themed coaster the park says is the longest of its kind in the world.
The ride is an homage to the former occupant of the Fiesta Texas site, Redland Quarry. What starts as a guided tour aboard a mining train launches into a high-speed escape from a centuries-old curse, complete with a finale through a crumbling quarry structure filled with menacing glowing eyes.
At the heart of the story is the fictional Jasper Bunyan, a sort of P.T. Barnum figure known for his roadside attractions. Two will help waiting riders from getting too fidgety: a Museum of Cryptids and a Werewolf Museum. The ride itself gets a little hairier. For the coasterheads, Werewolf Gorge offers:
- 4,120 feet of coaster track
- Speeds of up to 45 miles per hour
- Four launches that propel the train through quarry walls and dense pine groves
- A 40-foot drop and an 85-foot elevation change integrated into the layout
- 32 floater airtime moments
"Werewolf Gorge brings together storytelling, innovation, and a bold combination of ride elements that truly sets it apart," said park manager Robert Bustle in a release. "It delivers an experience that is approachable for families, yet unmatched anywhere in the world."
The coaster is the first to open since 2023, when the short-lived Kid Flash Cosmic Coaster premiered. Although operational issues have since retired that ride, Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger, unveiled the season before, still stands.
