San Antonio Spurs ink new 22-game broadcast deal with Sinclair
Now, San Antonians can watch Wemby on more stations.
Cheering on the San Antonio Spurs this season might require a spreadsheet. On October 23, the Silver and Black signed a broadcasting deal with Sinclair Broadcast Group to air 22 regular-season games on CW SA and other stations across South Texas.
The Maryland-based Sinclair, which also owns FOX SA and NBC affiliate WOAI, will be the team's over-the-air broadcast partner starting this season. Games will be available throughout the region via digital antenna, cable, satellite, and live TV providers.
"The Spurs are an important part of the fabric of South Texas, and we're proud to partner with the team to bring more games to fans across the region," Rob Weisbord, Sinclair's chief operating officer and president of local media, said in a release.
The deal adds to the already mind-boggling array of ways to watch the games. Under the NBA's current national media deals, matchups are split among Amazon's Prime Video, ESPN and ABC, and NBC and Peacock. Locally, some national broadcasts air on WOAI (NBC) and KSAT 12 (ABC). Meanwhile, the Spurs recently signed on with subscription service DAZN to stream every regular-season game not reserved for a national broadcast.
What? No Food Network?
For those who don’t excel at Excel, the team's official schedule sorts out which games will be aired where — some of them showing up on more than one platform. CW SA's first broadcast is October 27, when the Spurs host the Sacramento Kings. That game will also stream on DAZN and air on WOAI radio, and undoubtedly at half of San Antonio’s bars.
"Our fans are incredibly passionate and supportive and should have as many ways as possible to watch and connect with the Spurs," Frank Miceli, chief commercial officer of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, said in the release.
