Schlitterbahn makes a splash as 'World's Best Water Park' for 25th consecutive year
Someone call Charlie at the Chocolate Factory, because Schlitterbahn New Braunfels has won a golden ticket once again.
For the 25th consecutive year, the beloved Texas-based amusement park — which also has its own resort, FYI, that's older than the waterpark itself — has been honored with the Amusement Today's Golden Ticket award for world's best waterpark.
Winners are determined based on polling done by Amusement Today, an Arlington-based publication that covers news about amusement and water parks.
Schlitterbahn General Manager Darren Hill summed up the park's collective feelings in an official statement, noting how the whole point of Schlitterbahn was "making people happy."
He added, "It’s always tremendously gratifying when our commitment to serving guests is recognized and celebrated."
Originally opened in the summer of 79 by Bob and Billye Henry and their three kids, "Schlitterbahn" is a German portmanteau for slippery (Schlitter) and road (bahn).
According to the official history of Schlitterbahn, the New Braunfels-based entertainment staple also introduced several historic firsts in the waterpark industry, including the tidal wave rivers, Master Blaster uphill water slides, Boogie Bahn surf rides, and more.
Now in its 44th year, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels continues to draw in throngs of crowds eager to escape the relentless Texas heat. Another perk of a visit to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is the glory that is free parking — another rarity for waterparks across the country.
Guests can enjoy 51 attractions on over 70 acres, with the option to bring in their own picnic meals for free to enjoy across the expansive property and enjoy free tubes to float down the river. And being in Texas, there's an extended season for that kind of thing. (Did we mention it's still really hot in San Antonio?)
Schlitterbahn New Braunfels also offers military discounts for active and retired members of the military. With valid ID, military guests can enjoy $30 off the front gate price and purchase tickets for up to six family members and friends.
Conveying his gratitude for the Golden Ticket award, Hill added, "We salute our park and our team for consistently delivering amazing experiences to guests of all ages."
