1. San Antonio hospital thrives in U.S. News ranking across Texas. San Antonio's Methodist Hospital has accomplished a healthy reputation as the No. 1 best hospital in the city, and No. 18 in Texas. It ties for No. 18 with Houston's Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
2. San Antonio's Pearl unexpectedly loses Peruvian-Asian gem. One of Pearl’s staples has thrown in the towel. In a heartfelt social media message, chef Geronimo Lopez shared that August 4 would be the last day of business for Botika. Although he did not share the exact reasoning behind the move, he said it was made with “a lot of thoughtful consideration.”
3. Closure of anchor cocktail bar leaves San Antonio's Pearl blue. Hours after Peruvian-Asian staple Botika announced its impending closure, cocktail bar Blue Box Bar did the same. In a social media statement, a representative said the decision to shutter at the end of August was made with “heavy hearts,” but did not reveal any further reasoning.
4. Popular pizzeria brings 70 more draft beers to new San Antonio spot. New York-style pizza continues taking over San Antonio as the Denver-based Parry's Pizza & Taphouse opens yet another restaurant — all in quick succession. The chain's fourth San Antonio restaurant is located at the Cibolo Crossing shopping area and celebrated its grand opening days on July 29 and 30.
5. Sudden shutter of underground East Side club rocks San Antonio. During a summer marred by bar and restaurant closures, the sun is setting on yet another concept. After two years of quietly operating in Government Hill, Snake Hill Social Club will shutter permanently on August 5.
